Why use Kiln-Dried Logs over Seasoned Logs?
Kiln-dried logs are better than traditionally seasoned logs because they have a more consistent, lower moisture content. They tend to light more easily, produce more useful heat, meaning you get the most out of your stove, they burn more cleanly too, meaning no black glass and a clearer flame!
Kiln-dried logs offer better value because you’re paying for less water and more usable fuel.
Description
At Sussex Firewood, we’re committed to supplying high-quality, Woodsure accredited firewood with a moisture content below 20% - ensuring a cleaner burn and maximum heat output for your stove.
We specialise in kiln-dried hardwood, particularly ash, chosen for its excellent calorific value, easy ignition, and consistent performance. Unlike softwoods that burn too quickly, or denser hardwoods like oak that can be harder to manage, our logs are selected for reliability and efficiency.
Our log crates measure approximately 0.83m × 1.15m × 1.20m, providing around 1.17m³ of neatly packed logs. Once unpacked and tipped loose, this equates to approximately 1.9m³ - 2m³ of loose logs. (Equivalent to 2.2 builder bags)
Our standard 25cm logs fit most wood-burning stoves.
All logs may vary by ±10% due to the natural harvesting process.
We find our typical customer uses one handful of kindling and 1–2 Flamers per lighting, a practical matched supply would be:
- 1 crate logs
- 4–6 bags of kindling
- 1 box of around 50 Flamers/firelighters
That should give a reasonably balanced supply, although actual use will vary considerably depending on how often the customer lights from cold versus keeping the stove running.
